On Sunday Liverpool finally won, at Bolton 1-0, in the west midlands derby Birmingham and Villa played out a dull 0-0 but on Tyneside Newcastle stuffed Sunderland 5-1. Nolan got 3 and Ameobi 2.
Then on Monday night in an entertaining game at Blackpool, the Tangerines won eventually 2-1 at home to 9-man West Brom.
