Road to Wembley - Bye bye Gazza

A huge crowd of 4,548 watched Paul Gascoigne's Kettering Town exit the FA Cup this afternoon after local rivals Stevenage Borough beat them 3-1 at Rockingham Road.

The game was less than three minutes old when the first chorus of "Gazza, Gazza, gi'uz a wave" arose from the home fans on the popular side. Cheerily, he obliged. Dressed in a pale blue shirt and dapper tie.

However Kettering got off to a disastrous start when a George Boyd cross came back off the post and DARRYN STAMP headed past Mark Osborn and the home defence.

the home side hit back straight away as NEIL MIDGLEY hammered the ball past Alan Julian from 12 yards and the Poppies players headed for the bench. A brief celebration with Paul Gascoigne and Paul Davis ensued, much to the delight of the home supporters but minutes before half-time Stevenage regained the lead when GEORGE BOYD fired the visitors back in front.

Kettering threw everything at Stevenage midway through the half, with Craig McIlwin heading over and Midgley firing wide.

Anthony Elding replaced John Nurse for Boro on 61 mins and the substitution paid almost immediate dividends for Stevenage as ELDING scored to put the visitors 3-1 on 69 minutes.

Gazza threw on a couple of subs but to no avail.
