Congratulations to Brighton

With apologies to the two Barry's, congratulations to Brighton & Hove Albion for their well deserved promotion to the Championship this week.

I am pleased for Brighton, any true football fan should be. This season they have been very consistent, played an excellent passing game under a great manager, who took only half a season to assess his players, bring in some leaders and transform them and they follow a well worn path of League One champions Swansea, Leicester and Norwich who each won the title by playing good football and have thrived a division higher.

My parents are half an hour from Brighton's new ground at Falmer and I often pass it and it looks terrific. It is 14 years since they lost their Goldstone Ground thanks to the ineptitude and irresponsibility of a club chairman and they’ve had far too many years in the wilderness playing first 75 miles away at the dreadful Priestfield and then the Withdean, possibly one of the least atmospheric grounds in the country. West Ham fans take note.

Francey told me he is off to Walsall Saturday for the title game. Enjoy your day mate and congratulations to both you and Paul Long and his son, the exiled Seagulls in Chicago.
