Tartan pride

Apologies to my Scottish friends but normally I pay as much attention to Scottish football than I do an early morning scratch. But hang on I've just checked the table and blow me down with a haggis but it's almost exciting. Not exciting in a four-way title race or anything or that East Fife have just beaten Forfar 5-4 or Queen of the South are romping away with the title but it is all down to the last day of the season. When was the last time that happened? Just looked it up.... it was last year and it was bloody close in 2004/05 too, the last time Rangers won it. Oh well.

The last time anyone won the Scottish title other than Rangers and Celtic? Aberdeen 25 years ago under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Rangers lead Celtic by 2 points and they need to win at Europa Cup seeking Dundee Utd to take the title back from Celtic's 4 year ownership. Celtic play already Europa cup qualified Hearts at Parkhead.

The relegation decisions also go to the last day. With St Mirren safe, it is between Falkirk and Inverness Caledonian Thistle who play each other at the impressive Tulloch Stadium on Saturday. Inverness only need to draw, but The Bairns of Falkirk have to win.

St Johnstone will take either Inverness or Falkirk's place in the SPL, bringing a return of top flight football to McDiarmid Park for the 2009–10 campaign, after a seven-year absence.
