The Road to Wembley – Plucky Worthing go out

Sussex Leaguers Worthing ended their cup run losing to higher ranked Southern League’s Maidenhead United 3-1.

A stunning strike from DWAIN CLARKE set Maidenhead on their way, before CRAIG O'CONNOR doubled the lead from the spot. Worthing rarely ventured out of their own half, but did manage to pull a goal back after the break, when STEVE PICKLES got ahead of his man at a free-kick and dinked the ball past the Maidenhead goalkeeper.

Worthing then shocked their opponents by really giving it a go pushing for an equaliser but unfortunately were caught out when LEE NEWMAN outpaced his marker, then cut into the box and rifled the ball into the bottom left-hand corner to make it 3-1 to end our boys hopes.
The plucky visitors continued to battle away and all credit must go to Worthing for making a great game of it.
Worthing team: Figg, MacKenzie, Curtis (74 Yeo), Moss, Keetch, Maymon (80 Webb), Azmi, Pickles, Geddes, Shelley, Levy (45 Schneider)

Maidenhead now host sheep shaggers Merthyr Tydfil in the 4th Qualifying Round on Saturday. Click on Maidenhead’s website after the game to check on the score.

Recently Maidenhead appointed Johnson Hippolyte as their new manager. He came to fame as manager of Yeading during their cup run a couple of years back.
