At the final whistle on a thrilling night at the Nou Camp, Chelsea had eliminated Barcelona, the world and European champions. And all that despite losing centre-back Gary Cahill to a hamstring injury and playing for more than 50 minutes with 10 men after captain John Terry was sent off.
It was a triumph of guts, determination and spirit over the brilliance of Barcelona, which for once was nowhere to be seen just at the very moment they needed it most.
