Christopher Martin Jenkins died last week aged 67. As a narrator he had this brilliant ability to lift you from your armchair and put you back down next to a bowler or batsman on a sun-buttered field. He will be missed and is a dying breed of commentators that associate you with a sport. In fact as a kid listening to the radio these men were the sport:
Cricket; John Arlott, Don Mosey, Brian Johnson, CMJ, Fred Trueman
Football: Kenneth Wolstonholme, Barry Davis, John Motson, Brian Moore
Tennis: Dan Maskell
Boxing: Harry Carpenter
Motor racing: Raymond Baxter, Murray Walker
Horse Racing: Peter O'Sullevan
Darts: Sid Waddell
Snooker: Whispering Ted Lowe
Eventing/Horse of the Year Show: Raymond Brookes Ward, Dorian Williams
Rugby: Bill McLaren
Swimming: David Vine
Athletics: David Coleman
Skiing: David Vine
Golf: Henry Longhurst, Peter Alliss
