Actually it was last week but definitely worth a mention. Manchester United renamed the North Stand at Old Trafford the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand in recognition of his 25 years as manager of the club. Ferguson was given a guard of honour by his own players and visitors Sunderland as he made his way on to the pitch for their Premier League game. The club also announced that a statue of the Scot would go outside the stand before the start of next season.Ferguson, 69, succeeded Ron Atkinson as United manager on 6 November 1986.
