The Haggis League

Of course the English Premiership is as boring as the SPL these days but at least the SFA try to freshen things up a bit.

Today saw the announcement of a new set of fixtures to decide European qualification and relegation. The top 6 each now play each other once and the bottom six will do the same. It looks a bit complicated but credit to the SFA for trying to make the end of season interesting. Here is how it works.

Celtic 'won' the title ages ago despite losing their last two games (they had lost only one up until 2 weeks ago). They are 13 points ahead of fierce rivals Rangers, who at least have bragging rights in Glasgow after their recent 1-0 victory. Rangers have shaken off the challenges of Hearts and a revitalised Aberdeen, who should grab 3rd. Hearts meanwhile sacked their latest manager last week.

At the bottom Dunfermline look likely to go down with Gretna continuing their fantastic journey from Division's three to two to one and the Premier in 3 seasons. The border town with a population of just 2,700 have been relative big spenders and move into a new 6,000 capacity stadium in the summer.

If anyone is interested this is an article written recently on how the structure of Scottish Football is outdated and three times more expensive to run it's peers.
